My name is Aaron Bass, and I am an illustrator from the UK.
Five years ago, I made the journey to Australia, bringing more drawing supplies than clothing, driven by a desire for adventure and new opportunities. With my drawing desk in tow, I have created much of my work while traveling, drawing inspiration from the stunning landscapes of Western Australia. Currently, I call Broome/Yawuru Country my home, and I feel incredibly fortunate to be here.
All of my drawings are done by hand, sometimes under a magnifying glass. My creative process is organic; I start with a shape and let the image unfold from that initial form. This leads to a continuous transformation of form into image, which I view as a labor of love and a quest for authenticity. The concept of flow is crucial in my work, as my lines connect seamlessly, whether overtly or subtly. Each piece tells a complete story within a single image, yet I see them as part of an evolving world that I am constantly building—an endeavour that may never truly end.
I strive to maintain a balance in my practice, allowing the creative process to guide me while also conducting thorough research on my subjects to ensure anatomical accuracy and alignment with client briefs. Effective communication is vital when working on illustrations for clients, as it ensures their satisfaction with the final outcome.
I work in various mediums, such as pencil, pen, powdered graphite and markers. Sometimes I use colour, initial drawings are always created by hand but occasionally I will colour a piece digitally. Each piece is deeply personal, filled with subtle biographical references that reflect my journey. I think of it as the visual narrative of my life, picture by picture. Maybe one day a full narrative will emerge from my collected works as a whole.
I greatly appreciate you taking a moment to explore my work. I hope you find joy in my art, and I encourage you to reach out to me via email, phone, or social media if you require my skills.
